Subject: Results from the 12th Annual Mammano Picnic

Hi Everyone,

Thought you would like to know what went on at our family picnic today. We were certainly blessed with a great day, full of sun and heat. We had 23 adults and 10 children attend. It was wonderful to see all the cousins and their mates along with their little ones running around. My Mom was there representing the original Mammano family. I wish Aunt Betty could have attended. I think my Mom was feeling a little lonely as the "matriarch" of the family. But we were so glad she was there to keep us all straight and naturally to help in the clean up process.

For those of you that did attend, some of this may be repetitious but, for those of you that were not there I thought you would like an update on what is going on in our relatives lives.

As we began our picnic this year, we took the time to remember Uncle Joey and cousin JoAnn. We had two very large voids this year. There was no music, wine or flowers which JoAnn always provided along with her laughter and positive attitude. When it came time for the fire, the charcoal just did not seem to burn as well. We all knew that was because we did not do it the way Uncle Joey would have done it, THE RIGHT WAY. They were very much missed. We know they are making their picnic with music, wine and flowers together.

As for the rest of the family:

Aunt Nancy (my Mom) is now 86 yrs. young and very very active. She lives independently, drives and pretty much does what ever she feels like doing. Lunch, shopping, doctors and cooking are pretty much a daily routine for her. I must say, Barb & I are still trying to keep up with her. When we go out together, Barb & I are laughing because our Mom is walking 10 steps ahead of us looking back and telling us to hurry up. We are so truly blessed.

Barb Curcio (my sister) is currently working part time at Turners Auto Parts. She has some health issues that she is continually dealing with.

Kristi & Lindsay Putnam (Barb's #1 daughter) were missed at the picnic this year. They stopped by earlier than anyone else and left us some dessert. Tyler 13 is very active in his ice hockey. Shannon 10 is busy with everything. She is very artistic and interested in life. Kristi is always on the go with them. Lindsay is Tyler's hockey coach and still the Superintendent of Sea Breeze Water Authority.

Cori & Jeff Vincent (Barb's #2 daugher) is living in Palm Coast Florida with their daughter Cassandra 9. Cori works part time and Jeff is busing helping Palm Coast grow by building houses. Cori & Cassie were visiting here in July. Cori sent her regrets that they couldn't make the picnic.

Kelli Englehart (Barb's #3 daughter) is working at Wells Fargo Financial. She and her son Shane 10, live in Webster and keep busy with Shane and his baseball and basketball games. Unfortunately, they were not able to attend the picnic.

Dick Russo (my brother) is now totally RETIRED and loving every minute of it. He was visiting us in Rochester this past June & July with his daughter Sammi Jo, who will be 14 yrs. old in October. She is making sure Dick is into rap music, roller bladeing and learning the new ways of math. He and Roxanne are proud grandparents of Savanna who will have a sister to share life with in October.

Aunt Betty (our aunt) will be 89 in October. She is probably going to kill me for telling you her age but, hell when you reach her stage in life, you have just got to be proud of your age along with your heritage. She is pretty much busy living in Texas with both her daughters, Loretta and Diane. She takes care of Diane's two dogs when needed and also help with Loretta's granddaughter and the animals when Loretta goes away with her husband Bob. Now life is not too bad for our Aunt. She has her own private floor at Loretta's and divides her time between her daughter. She continues to be an active person even though she has a severe case of arthritis. I'm telling you, the Mammano girls are tough cookies. Hopefully, she will be in Rochester in October.

Loretta & Bob Johnson (Aunt Betty's daughter) is recuperating from an auto accident. Her car was totaled, but she wasn't, thank the Lord. She is very busy raising her granddaughter, Crystal and traveling in her motor home when her husband Bob can get away from his job. He's retired 2 times but they just keep calling him back. I would say he is what you would call "priceless". At least that's what Loretta's tell us.

Diane Potter (Aunt Betty's daughter) has just recently moved into a new home with her friend Don. They met about 2 yrs. ago and are now sharing their lives together. Diane is recovering from cancer and being the fighter that she is, doing very well.

Traci (Dattalo) & Hilbert Jordan (Diane's daughter) along with her 2 beautiful daughters, Sofia 7 & Ava 2 1/2 joined in the gathering today. Traci continues to work at Arch Chemical as a negotiator for contacts and purchasing. Hilbert was not able to come as he was working his job as head of security and facilities at Pittsburgh Plaza. They are pretty active with Sofia's gymnastics & soccer and keeping up with their busy schedule.

Nate Nisenbaum (Diane's son) lives in Texas with his fiancee and her daughter, Savanna. He is a Special Educational Teacher and still has a passion for umpiring baseball. His marriage plans are in the near future and they will announce them, once they are Mr. & Mrs.

Marilyn (Mammano) Salerno has kept herself very busy this past year. She has taken in a new room mate, Molly. Molly is 4 yrs. old and has four feet, one tail and a very loving way about her. Yes, she a dog. Not just any dog, but a toy poodle that brings hours of fun and company to Marilyn. Mare is living a very good and healthy life. She is looking forward to Corkey's visit the 1st week in November. She has requested we all try to get together while Corkey is here. He is missing family and wants to connect with as many of us as he can.

Sandy & Annette are very busy with their grandchildren. They are just enjoying their retirement so much. Sandy is loving his fishing and golfing. For the past 3 yrs. they have been spending 3 winter months in Florida. Life is grand.

David & Luisa Mammano (Sandy & Annette's son) are very busy with their two beautiful children, Gianluka 4 & Melania 2. David is currently teaching a class for entrepreneurs at the University of Rochester one day a week. That is his part time job. His main passion is his "Next Step Magazine" along with Next Step Publishing, Inc., of which he is the founder. David has been recognized for presenting outstanding material in the field of teaching and learning by receiving the 2007 Association of Educational Publishers Distinguished Achievement Award for "Periodical of the Year" for young adults. He is also a final in the Small Business Person of the Year award, which will be announced on Oct. 17th. We will all be looking for his winning announcement. Luisa is currently a homemaker. She has put her teaching career on hold to raise Gianluka and Melania.

Laura & Adam Swartz (Sandy & Annette's daughter) are also busy running after their two handsome sons, Noah 7 & Lucas 4. Noah has begun his sport activities with ice hockey and Lucas has an ear for music. He loves to play instruments and dance to the tune. While Laura has put her daycare teaching career on hold. to enjoy the boys, Adam has flourished in his profession by receiving a promotion to Vice Principal at Canandaigua Primary School which has prompted them to have a change in address. They are moving into their new home in Canandaigua this week. Much work ahead of them, but oh how exciting.

Tina (Glenday) & Bill Richardson (cousin Joann's #1 daughter) were there with their son Jet 2 1/2 yrs. Tina continues to work at Unity Health Care as a Play Therapist & Bill is a contractor. Jet is in preschool and he is just a full of life and smiles child. Always on the go and loving every minute of it. They have been spending much of their summer swimming in Brighton where they live.

Lisa Glenday (cousin Joann's #2 daughter) is still living in Charlotte, NC. with her boyfriend Steve. Lisa has taken the plunge and purchased a home in NC. She is currently attending the University of North Carolina Charlotte and working toward her Master in Education degree. Steve is in his 3rd year of pharmacy school. If all goes as planned, Lisa will be back home and planting her roots here.

Joelle Mammano is in the process of a change in her life. She is currently working at Tops Markets in Penfield and her future plans include becoming a certified nurse assistant. She is currently living in Uncle Joey's house, which is now up for sale. She will then move in with a girl friend of hers in Greece. She stays close with her cousins Nick & Alex by babysitting for them every Friday morning.

Marlene (Mammano) & Paul Christoff are very busy into their home and their careers. Marlene's into her 40th year as a hairdresser. Her "Avenue Salon" continues to be successful and Paul's carpentry trade continues to flourish. They love to work in their home and Marlene's passion of flowers has given a view of growth, color and life in their gardens. Paul continues to surprise Marlene with his romantic gestures. He gave her new windows to look through to admire and enjoy her beautiful flowers. Now, tell me what other man would be so original. She continues to smile every time she looks at him.

Joe Christoff (Marlene's son) continues to live in New York with his girlfriend, Lizette. They have been together for 5 yrs. Joe is working at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He is in the Bio Statistics dept. working at a entry level with research. He flew home to see everyone at the picnic.

Michael Mammano III & Jackie Palmiere have very much going on in their lives. Mike's, Clinton Signs business is continually busy and keeping him in his sport of racing. No, it not boats, nor motorcycles. It's Porshe cars. His daughter Alyssa 16 is enjoying her fathers hobby, especially when she is able to lend him a hand and take the car off his hands for a spin. She is also working now as a gymnastic coach for 5-8 yr old kids. Mikey now 14 wants nothing to do with the Porshe, he is into paintball. He is in tournaments and keeping things very colorful. Jackie in the meantime is very busy getting her new venture together. She will be presenting her artistic jewelry line and other boutique material in her new store, Treasure Chest.

Jackie Mammano is keeping herself very busy, or I should say her boys are keeping her very busy. She takes care of Mike's accounting at Clinton Signs and makes sure things are running smooth. Sam keeps her busy dog sitting his pets while he and his wife Karen are off doing dog shows all over the world. What would we do without our mothers?

Patti Russo (me) & Joe Calarco finally tied the knot. Yes, on June 2nd we became Mr. & Mrs. We are very happy and blessed. Joe is fully retired and I am still working. Something wrong with this picture, don't you think? We are continually busy. Between us we have 5 children, 10 grandchildren and a life full of surprises. Isn't life grand?

John & Tina Risolo (my son) is continually growing his practice as a general surgeon. He has developed quite a reputation as a very caring, intelligent and skilled surgeon. His hours are tremendously challenging but the rewards of bringing lives back to health are rewarding. Tina agrees with his hours being challenging as is having a family of 3 girls, Nicole 7, Isabella 5 & Olivia 3. She continues to be a homemaker and keeps the ship running smooth. As the girls age, she is becoming more of a taxi driver and coordinator. Nicole is active in her music, soccer and social life. Isabella is very much our fashion child. Olivia just continues to warm our hearts. But let me tell you, 3 beauties they are and smart, well, can you tell I'm the Nonnie.....

Joelle (Risolo) & Mark Vail (my daughter) still reside in Austin, TX with their 2 boys, Jackson 4 & Luke 20 mo. Joelle continues to work very successfully for Paychex and Mark's job is in computer software. They are continually flying all over the country for their work, however they always find time to stop the clock, go fishing on their fishing boat and take their family vacations. Jackson is becoming quite the swimmer and Luke makes sure his brother teaches him everything he knows.

Some other family members were not able to attend but sent their best wishes to everyone:
Lisa (Knoble) Tripani (Fran's #1 daughter) was off to NYC enjoying and celebrating her birthday.
Lori (Knoble) & Pete Mancuso (Fran's #2 daughter) were off with their boys, Nick & Alex enjoying their vacation at a cottage.
Dawn (Manning) Jordon & Thom were here in May and could not make the trip again.
Roger Manning sent his best wishes to all.

Thanks for helping our day be a successful one. As time goes on, we see our families grow and we realize how important it is to take just a little time to say "Hi, how are you?" How about spending a couple of hours together once a year or so.? If the answer is yes, then remember to reserve the 2nd Sunday of August for our family.

Stay healthy, happy and remember, if you win the lottery, our next family reunion will be in Hawaii.....
